Only 15 minutes from Uzès, heading in the direction of Avignon, is the delightful riverside village of Collias. In the past it was associated with the silk industry but now it is mainly associated with leisure pursuits such as swimming and canoeing or kayaking as the river Gardon flows alongside the left bank of Collias and under the Pont du Gard. There are several places offering canoe/kayak rentals as you approach the village.
The village itself is worth a wander through for its old buildings and has some surprises in terms of the number and quality of the places to eat. There is the crèpèrie Les Caves de Collias and the casual L’Enclos on the left bank, L’Oliveraie and L’Alpha B to name a few.
The real jewel is found at the Hostellerie Le Castellas , a local family run hotel ,offering boutique accommodation with a restaurant and chef Jérôme Nutile who has been awarded 2 Michelin stars. Whilst the prices for dining are steep, the food and service are excellent and all that you would expect to find in a gourmet restaurant. Lunch is a cheaper option at 45 euros on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for several courses.
